Are California Teen Drivers the Worst in the Country?
We all had to learn to drive sometime, and despite what most claim and remember, the first year or two was scary and there were some dumb mistakes made on the road. Despite these mistakes and not knowing how to drive like today, we made it and are still driving years later. Teen drivers are scary, but given the chance, they will make it and get better over time. Where you live can dictate the type of roads you learn to drive on. Living in the country gives you more freedom and less traffic, compared to a big city where interstate driving is more common and sitting in traffic jams is likely. When it comes to teen drivers, how do the young drivers of California compare to the rest of the country? Are they better or worse?
The Best and Worst States for Teen Drivers
A recent study came out from WalletHub ranking the states by who has the best teen drivers to who has the worst. It ranked them using a few categories such as safety, economic environment, and driving laws. Using these criteria, it was determined that the state with the best teen drivers is New York, with Oregon being second, and New Jersey rounding out the top three. The worst state for teen drivers is Montana, with Missouri being the second worst, and Wyoming rounding out the bottom three.
How Are Teen Drivers in California?
With so much traffic and so many lanes, most would assume that California is home to some of the worst teen drivers in the country. There are many distractions, but despite that, California is home to some of the best young drivers, coming in on the list at number ten. California is 6 in safety, likely due to sitting in traffic and being unable to speed, is 49 in the economic environment, as many things are expensive in California, and 11 in driving laws. One thing that is working against California is that if a teen is in a wreck and needs their car fixed, they are the third most expensive state when it comes to auto repairs.
While teen drivers are notoriously some of the worst drivers on the road, according to this study, they could be much worse than the drivers in the Golden State. They will improve with time, and at least they are ahead of most of the country. To check out the full survey, make sure to click the link above.
