Recap of Traffic Accidents on Idaho Highways

This past weekend saw a series of tragic incidents on Idaho highways, with several crashes resulting in fatalities and serious injuries. The Idaho State Police (ISP) is currently investigating the incidents, and here are the details of the major crashes reported over the weekend.

Single Fatality Crash East of Boise

On the evening of August 24, 2024, a fatal single-vehicle crash occurred on State Highway 21 in Ada County, just east of Boise. At approximately 6:24 p.m., a 72-year-old woman from Boise was driving a 2007 Ford Freestyle northbound near milepost eleven when her vehicle left the roadway and struck concrete barriers. She was transported to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the ISP.

Fatal Crash Near Pocatello

Another fatal accident occurred near Pocatello on the same day, August 24, 2024. At around 5:28 p.m., a 48-year-old male from Pocatello was driving a 2016 Yamaha Razor on Government Road when the vehicle rolled over after leaving the roadway. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 51-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Neither individual was wearing helmets or seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Motorcycle Collision on US95 Near Lewiston

Earlier in the afternoon of August 24, 2024, a tragic two-vehicle collision occurred on US Highway 95 near milepost 308, just outside the Clearwater River Casino in Lewiston. At approximately 2:34 p.m., a 73-year-old male motorcyclist from Lewiston was riding a 2024 Kawasaki northbound when his motorcycle collided with a 2023 Buick Envision. The Buick was exiting the casino parking lot, driven by an 85-year-old man from Mountain Home. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, while the occupants of the Buick were unharmed. Both were wearing seatbelts.

ITD Worker Injured on SH33

A crash involving an Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) worker occurred on a closed section of State Highway 33 in Fremont County on the morning of August 24, 2024. At around 7:22 a.m., a gray Ford Fusion driven by a 32-year-old man from Rexburg ignored roadblocks and struck a 41-year-old ITD worker from Idaho Falls. The worker was outside his vehicle, a white Ford F350, at the time of the impact and sustained serious injuries. He was airlifted to a local hospital for treatment. The driver was cited for inattentive driving and driving with an expired license.

Injury Crash on I84 Near Wendell

An injury crash was reported on Interstate 84 near Wendell at approximately 3:36 p.m. on August 24, 2024. A 59-year-old male from Tennessee was driving a 2019 Volvo tractor-trailer eastbound when he failed to maintain his lane, causing a collision with a 1998 Subaru Legacy driven by a 59-year-old woman from Eagle, Idaho. The Subaru struck the trailer and veered into the median. Both the driver and a passenger, a 34-year-old male from Eagle, were transported to local hospitals. The crash caused significant traffic delays, with eastbound lanes blocked for over two hours.
