We all have times when we need to go to the doctor either because we are sick, need to get a check-up, or perhaps have to have an operation. Getting good medical care is something we all desire, as receiving bad care can lead to worse circumstances or perhaps death. You want to feel comfortable and confident in the care you receive, as going to the doctor or hospital isn't fun, to begin with. When it comes to getting medical care, which states have the best, which has the worst, and how does medical care in Idaho compare?

You always hope that you are getting the best care when you go into a medical facility, but most of us are unaware that not all doctors and hospitals are created equal. WalletHub recently released a list of the best and worst states for medical care and used categories such as cost, access, and outcomes. Using these criteria, it was determined that Minnesota offers the best medical care in the country, with Iowa being second, and Rhode Island being third. The worst state for medical care is West Virginia, with Mississippi being the second worst, and Alaska rounding out the bottom three.

When it comes to medical care in Idaho, you may think it is around average, since last week we wrote that children's medical care wasn't the best. Overall medical care is different though, coming in on the list at 10. Idaho is 15 in cost, 37 in access, and 3 in outcomes. There might not be as much access as other states, but good outcomes are what matters and the cost is relatively low. Idaho has the fourth-lowest average insurance premiums, but the second-lowest hospital beds per capita. Idaho has the least amount of physicians per capita in the country. If you know any doctors, tell them to move to Idaho soon.

The next time you need medical attention, you may struggle to find an opening, but if you get in, the outcome should be favorable according to this list. Idaho might not be one of the states you would think of with good medical care, but we are in good hands, even if there aren't as many hands as we would like.
