6 Things to Do to Winterize Your Home in Idaho Before the Cold Arrives
The fall in Idaho has been abnormally warm this year, but residents are enjoying it as the weather ping-pongs back and forth between a warm summer-like day and a chilly fall-like day. Despite the warm beginning to the season, most Idahoans know that all good things come to an end, and before the Gem State knows it, the days of sun and warmth will be a thing of the past, and the long cold winter will begin. With so many nice days, most residents want to get out and enjoy the weather and have fun, but perhaps they should be using it to prepare for winter. Some things must be done before the cold, and if you wait too long, you'll pay the price. Here is what needs to be done before the cold weather arrives in the Magic Valley.
Getting Firewood in Idaho
While you may not need it for a bit, now is the time to purchase firewood if you haven't already. The earlier you buy, the less it will cost, which is why hopefully you already have it. If not, make a call today. You don't have to stack it yet, although it is a good idea to take advantage of the beautiful weather and do it now, instead of doing it when the weather is much cooler. Make sure to be stocked up before it is too late.
Sweeping or Cleaning Out the Chimney in Idaho
Speaking of firewood, it is always a good idea to sweep out your chimney, as you aren't sure what has gotten in there over the spring, summer, and so far this fall. This one is ok to wait a little bit, especially if you have a tree near yours, but if not, it is a good idea to have it swept soon, so when that first cold day surprises everyone, your chimney is good to go for a nice warm fire. Make sure to book a sweeping soon.
Getting Tires and Wipers Checked in Idaho
Now that you are prepared to be warm inside your home, it is time to worry about your car. Winterizing your car is important, as you don't want to be caught off guard and unprepared. Make sure to get your tires changed or get winter tires if you need them, and also make sure to get new wipers, as you always want good ones to begin the winter season.
Putting Away the Pool and Summer 'Toys'
With the days of triple digits likely done for the year, it is time to take down the pools and put away the summer toys. There is no reason to keep a pool up, a waterslide, or some other toy that is used during the warmer days of the year. Leaving it out could ruin it and cost you money next summer. Put the summer toys into the shed, garage, or attic, and wave goodbye until next year.
Finding Winter Clothes in the Magic Valley
Odds are that you haven't worn your warm winter coat, boots, and gloves in some time, but the days of needing all the above are approaching quickly. It is a good idea to find your warmer clothes and slowly begin putting away the shorts, t-shirts, sandals, and swimsuits. Instead, it is time to find the thermal socks, heavy boots, heavy coats, and something to keep your ears warm. There is time until your outfit is winter clothes all the time, so this one can happen over weeks instead of being done immediately.
Blowing Out Your Sprinklers in the Magic Valley
One of the most important things to do before winter begins is to blow out your sprinklers if you have a system. If you don't it could cost you dearly. While it might be a little early and warm to do this one today, it is a good idea to book it to be done sooner than later, and perhaps do it near the end of October. Don't wait too long as it is unlikely to book the next day, with so many residents needing this done. You can do it yourself if you know how, but if not book an appointment before it is too late.
There is still time to get all of these things done, and likely it isn't something you are thinking about at this point, but it is best to be prepared and to get these done while the weather is nice, instead of trying to do them when it is below freezing, cold, and possibly snowing. Don't wait and winterize your home now while there is still time.
