We have all been there. While some of us may not remember it or be in denial, once upon a time we were all children who loved to run, scream, and have fun. Kids will be kids, and a part of childhood is running around, being full of energy, getting in trouble, and being loud. While kids being loud can often be annoying and a disturbance, it might be good for children to be loud. Instead of telling kids to be quiet and go home, or telling your children to be quiet and go to their room, you might want to encourage them to be loud. Quieting these children could harm their health, and being loud might be better for them than even you or they realize.

Kids being loud is a part of life, and being annoyed by them or trying to quiet them is often a part of life for adults. Being loud is normal. As adults, we still do it, but we know when and where to, whereas kids do not have that sense of awareness. Trying to silence them may seem convenient for you, but might harm the children that you are quieting. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, undirected play is a key to children growing up and affects their development. While as adults we get angry and yell, cry, scream, or cheer loudly, kids too need to express these emotions, and doing so while playing affects who they will become and how they will turn out.

It is during these loud playful times that many children learn skills that they will need to navigate life. Some of those skills include conflict resolution, negotiation, and self-advocacy. While many parents think they are helping by telling their children to be quiet or to focus more on school work or reading, they could be doing more harm than good. By taking away a child's freedom, and forcing them into the type of behavior that benefits the adult, it is more likely to lead to depression, anxiety, and future social problems. While they might be more educated, it could hurt them in other aspects of life.

Older generations used to live outside getting into trouble, being loud, and likely doing things they shouldn't have done. Today's generation is buried in screens, stuck inside, and missing out on learning skills they will need later in life. The world is evolving, some of it good and some of it bad, but children playing freely and being loud is becoming less common than it used to. Instead of quieting kids from making noise and being loud, encourage them to be free and to learn skills that we learned at their age.
