Idaho is quickly growing and more and more people are moving to the Gem State. The state has much to offer and others are beginning to notice, especially those on the West Coast. As more and more people move into Idaho, the state continues to adapt and grow. Each person has a different reason for moving here. It can be due to their job, wanting to raise a family here, wanting to live near the mountains or for hunting, or perhaps to have a cheaper living than where they previously lived. If someone has moved to Idaho over the last year, they are in for a shock and surprise, and few if any of these new residents are prepared for it.

New Idaho Residents in For a Surprise

This winter has been mild, to say the least in Idaho. There have been chilly days, but not many cold ones. There has been some snow, but not a true snow day. There has been some wind, but not as much as usual for this time of year. This has been one of the calmer, drier, and easier winters over the last few years. Those new to Idaho may think that winter here isn't all that bad and that stories they have heard are exaggerated. While there is snow in the distance on the mountains, the Magic Valley and lower areas have yet to be hit much this year. This winter is misleading and has not truly introduced new arrivals to what winter is like in the Gem State most years.

For those who expected winter to be bitterly cold and covered in feet of snow, their first winter in the Gem State might be a letdown. Don't let it discourage you, as there will likely be many cold and snow-covered winters in your future if you stick around Idaho long enough. There is still a chance for snow coming later this month, as well as in February and even potentially March and beyond. These new residents will be in for a shock the first time that they wake up to a foot or more of snow, roads that are like ice skating rinks, and cold that forces you to wear multiple layers to stay warm. If this winter does not show these new residents signs of what Idaho offers, next year will have more people than usual adjusting to the winter as more people will move into Idaho over the coming year.

Enjoy your first winter in Idaho as best as you can, because this is not the norm, and likely next winter will be a culture shock filled with cold days, snow, ice, and many days of regret. Idaho is hiding its winter identity, but once it reveals itself, many new residents will be surprised by what they signed up for.

Honest Twin Falls Welcome Signs

I'm pretty certain that most people don't fully understand what 'Twin Falls' actually means. On that note, if Twin Falls had an honest welcome sign: what would it say?
