New Traffic Signal to be Installed at US-93 and SH-25 in Jerome

The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) has announced plans to install a traffic signal at the intersection of US-93 and SH-25 in Jerome. This project comes as part of an ongoing effort to improve safety on one of Southern Idaho’s most traveled routes. The signal will be added as a change order to the existing US-93, 300 S project.

Why This Matters

For years, ITD has been conducting engineering studies at this intersection to determine when a traffic signal would be warranted. After reaching a warrant based on traffic volumes earlier this year, ITD initiated design and funding efforts to move the project forward. The department had even anticipated the need for a future signal during a previous project and installed conduits and electrical components to facilitate the construction.

Fatal Accidents Have Occurred at This Intersection

Southern Idaho residents are likely to welcome this update, as the intersection has been notorious for accidents and near-misses. Over the past two years, there have been six accidents and two fatalities at this location, often due to drivers speeding through the intersection and cross-traffic misjudging oncoming vehicles. The installation of a traffic signal is expected to significantly reduce these dangers and improve the overall safety of the route.

When Will It Be Completed?

While ITD has not identified a specific completion date due to supply chain delays for signal components, construction is anticipated to begin this fall, with final completion expected by spring. The department remains committed to improving traffic flow and safety at this vital intersection.
