What Would You Do? Seeing an Injured Animal in Idaho
What would you do? What would you do if you saw an injured animal or one struggling while driving down the road or out hiking in the Gem State? Would you stop and help it? Would you call someone to report the injured animal and let them deal with it? Would put it out of its misery? Would you even acknowledge it or would you keep on driving or hiking? Seeing animals on a hike or on the side of the road in Idaho is not uncommon, so this is likely a scenario you have faced before or will face in the future. If you find yourself in this situation, what would you do?
Injured Animals in Idaho
It is well documented that there are plenty of animals killed or injured every day in Idaho by vehicles, by other animals, by people being mean, and by many different causes. It isn't uncommon to see road kill every day on the way to running errands or going to work, but those animals didn't all die instantly, and perhaps if someone had acted differently, they could have helped save the animal. Seeing wildlife injured is one thing, but seeing a pet that has escaped or been abused is different. Does the type of animal you see hurt, affect the actions that you take? Seeing an injured moose or badger is different than a dog or cat, but why should the animal suffer, only because it isn't domesticated?
Helping Hurt Animals in Idaho
There are those that for whatever reason think it is ok to hurt and abuse animals, or perhaps only view them as food or to serve a purpose. Some view animals as humans and will do anything to help them and love them. This was made clear recently when an injured Rottweiler was found that appeared to have been shot and possibly hit by a car, before being left to die. It was discovered, and people took action to help save the dog's life. Their actions gave this poor dog a chance to survive. Not everyone would stop and do this, and some would ignore the dog and let it suffer, or put it down on their own. My wife once saw an injured hawk, and brought it home before calling animal control to help it, which they were able to do. These are only a few instances that people went above and beyond, but would you do the same?
It is easy to say you would help an injured animal, but depending on the animal could dictate how you feel when the time comes. Finding a dog or cat might be easier to help, but even deer, raccoons, hawks, and other wildlife deserve a chance to survive as well. It all depends on how you feel about animals in the area and if you are one of those who view them as worth saving, or more so as a food source or serving a purpose. If you see an injured animal the next time driving or hiking, what would you do?
