What Would You Do? The Idaho Winter Weather Ruining Roads and Plans

What would you do? What would you do if you have an important meeting, a flight to catch, or an appointment you can't miss, but find that the snow or ice is keeping you from getting where you need to be? Do you risk it and persist through the conditions until you get going? Do you call a friend or family member to come bail you out and risk them being stuck? Do you call an Uber or Lift, that might be able to make it through the conditions? Do you say, 'oh well,' and let the conditions win the day and accept your loss? The weather is coming and many of us will likely be in this fate soon, but what would you do?

Driving on Ice and Snow in Twin Falls

Living in Idaho, it is inevitable that snow and ice will come this winter, and depending on the year, there can be over a foot of snow sitting outside your doorstep this time of year. There will be a day that you need to get to work, walk outside and find that getting out of your driveway will be difficult due to thick ice on the roads or snow deep enough that you can't get out. If you have to be at work that day, do you risk it, start shoveling, walking, or let the snow and ice claim you and go back into the house? There are choices to be made, but which is the right one for you?

While many in the area own trucks and are prepared for the weather, not everyone is, and when the time comes you find yourself stuck, what should you do? The safe and smartest bet is to not risk it and stay home, but sometimes things are not that simple. If you do not have PTO or are unable to work from home, you may be forced to find a way to get there, and choosing which way to go can be tough. Calling a ride from a ride service or a friend with a truck could work, but then you are forced to wait and will be later than you most likely already are, and you put somebody else at risk on the road. You can start shoveling and find a way to get out, but risk getting stuck between work and home, or having an accident. There is no right or wrong answer, but having a plan is good because odds are high it will happen this winter at least once.

When the weather comes and the snow piles up and the roads become an ice rink, you do what you have to do. The important part is to be as safe as you can and if you can, stay off the roads and stay home. Most jobs will understand and your job is likely not at risk. If you have to get out to get to a certain appointment, you have to catch a flight or have to get to work, make sure you are safe, give yourself plenty of time, and know being late is ok, as long as you make it there safely. When the time comes when you have to choose what to do with bad roads, what would you do?
