Idaho State Police are investigating an accident that happened over the weekend in Northern Idaho between two Ford trucks.

Police believe alcohol and the lack of seatbelt use by one of the drivers were factors in the deadly crash.

Vehicle Accident in Kootenai County, Idaho, Sends One to Hospital and Kills Another

The tragic accident happened south of Spirit Lake on State Highway 41 near mile marker 18 around 2:45 on Sunday afternoon.

The police believe the following happened leading up to and during the accident:

  • A silver Ford F250, driven by a 21-year-old male from Priest River, Idaho, was traveling northbound on State Highway 41 when the vehicle went left of center, into the southbound lane.
  • The Silver Ford F250 crashed into a black Ford F350 towing a trailer, driven by a 62-year-old male from Palm Harbor, Florida, which was traveling southbound on the highway.

The man driving the F250 was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the F350 was wearing a seatbelt and required transport to a local hospital.

The police report also states:

Evidence was found on scene to indicate that alcohol may have been involved in this crash. Next of kin has been notified.

ISP was also called to a fatal accident on Friday morning near Blackfoot on Interstate 15. A 21-year-old male driver reportedly struck the rear of another vehicle. An 81-year-old female passenger from Canada was killed in the crash, and the 80-year-old male driver was taken to the hospital.

The Blackfoot accident is also being investigated.
