No matter how many times a car cuts off a semi-truck and causes an accident or a close call, and no matter how many of those instances are caught on camera: people keep doing it.

A recent reckless driver who cut off a semi-truck in Southern Idaho caused an issue that blocked traffic for about an hour and a half.

Reckless Driver Cuts Off Semi Loaded With Hay Bales in Southern Idaho

This accident happened in Power County, Idaho, near American Falls on Interstate 86 at mile marker 44. Idaho State Police responded to the call and shared this in their report:

  • A 46-year-old male from Pocatello, driving a 2004 Peterbilt semi tractor pulling a trailer load of hay bales, was slowing for the reduced-speed construction zone ahead when he was recklessly cut off by another motorist.
  • To avoid a collision, the driver aggressively engaged the semi brakes, which caused the load to shift, and several hay bales fell into the lane of travel.

It took response teams about an hour and a half to clear the bales of hay from the road and reopen the eastbound lanes to traffic.

As mentioned before, people often cut off big trucks on roads across the United States. Sometimes nothing happens but a brake check and a dose of adrenaline, and other times are much more dangerous and even tragic.

Semi-trucks with loaded trailers can’t stop as quickly as a smaller vehicle. That’s science. So, take your time and be careful out there, and give big trucks big space on the roads.
