A recent bout of road rage in Idaho turned into a gunfight on a Northern Idaho road Wednesday night.

Idaho State Police are reporting that a road rage weapons offense occurred in Kootenai County. During their investigation, they found a bullet hole in one car and a gun on the driver of the other.

Car Hit by a Bullet During Idaho Interstate Road Rage

In the report from the Idaho State Police, they say the incident happened around 9:41 PM on January 8th on Interstate 90 west of Coeur d’Alene and near Post Falls at milepost 6.

The incident happened only a few miles from the Washington State border, but both drivers are from Idaho. The ISP news release contains the following information:

A 40-year-old Idaho woman who was driving a slate grey Volkswagen SUV called 911 to report a possible road rage situation involving a potential weapons offense occurring on I 90 near milepost 6 in the Post Falls area. As Troopers stopped out with the female on the I 90 exit 11 off-ramp, it was discovered that a bullet hole was present on the front passenger side door which traveled through the entire door and continued to travel into the front passenger seat.

Idaho State Police were helped by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department in finding the other driver and vehicle involved in the incident. The suspected vehicle, a white Nissan Rogue with 7B plates was located in Coeur d’Alene as was the driver who was taken into custody.

A firearm was also removed from his person. The driver of the Nissan Rogue, a 24-year-old Coeur d’Alene man was transported to the Kootenai Jail and booked for the following charges: Unlawful discharge of a firearm at a vehicle, and aggravated assault both felonies. The male was also charged with Driving Under the Influence 1st Offense.

Authorities are looking for any information from witnesses to the road rage incident.
