
Blown Tire Believed to be the Cause of Fatal Idaho Motorcycle Accident
A motorcycle accident in Northern Idaho over the weekend turned deadly for a passenger and left the driver in a local hospital.
Idaho State Police are investigating the crash, but they believe it was caused when one of the bike's tires blew and the driver lost control.
Idaho State Police Report Fatal Motorcycle Accident Due to Blown Tire
The accident happened on Sunday morning, September 7th, around 10:25. The bike was headed west on Interstate 90 near Smelterville in Shoshone County. The driver lost control near mile marker 48.
- A 67-year-old male of Kingston, ID, was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle with his passenger, a 66-year-old female of Kingston, ID
- The back tire blew on the motorcycle.
- The motorcycle lost control and crashed.
The driver and his passenger were wearing helmets when the accident happened, but the passenger’s helmet came off during the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, and the driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

No other vehicles or people were involved in the accident.

There have been quite a few motorcycle accidents on Idaho roads this summer. ISP reported a recent accident that left a motorcyclist from Washington in the hospital after hitting a pickup truck.
A separate accident in late August took the life of a motorcycle driver when a semi-truck struck the bike on a highway near the Utah border.
