The road to the Shoshone Falls and Dierkes Lake might be one of the most used by tourists and it is also one of the worst in the city.

The road is riddled with potholes, patches, and bumps. A section of the upper road was fixed recently but the main areas of concern remain.

That should change soon. A few weeks ago it was announced in a Twin Falls City Council meeting that a bid had been approved to fix the Shoshone Falls Grade. It’s a necessary fix that has been an issue for many years.

At the time of the meeting, a timeline was not presented but the city just announced that preparations have begun and construction crews have already begun closing the road.

Vehicle access to the Shoshone Falls parking area and picnic spots was closed on October 4th. People using the trail along the Canyon Rim can still access the area but there are no longer bathrooms available for public use.

Visitors can still access Dierkes Lake. The road is only currently closed at the point where it splits between the lake and the waterfall. The full road will be closed to both locations starting on October 21st.

When the full road is closed, barricades will be placed at the top of the road near the Wildrose subdivision and signs will be posted warning those using the Canyon Rim Trail of the changes.
