Smoke from numerous fires burning in eastern Oregon and central Idaho has been contributing to very poor air quality in the Gem State, and later this week temperatures will once again soar to triple digits making firefighting efforts even more difficult. Thursday (August 1) will begin a heatwave in southern Idaho that is forecasted to last approximately 72 hours.

Firefighters in Idaho, Washington, Oregon, and California are currently battling more than 40 substantial blazes that have charred hundreds of thousands of acres and destroyed numerous structures in the past week. While the region did experience a brief cool-down over the past weekend with several western cities dropping into the eighties, temperatures will again shoot up toward the end of the work week.

Clear skies will turn to partly cloudy toward the end of the week just in time for the triple-digit weather. It's recommended that people stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and make sure pets have plenty of shade during this time.

The current weather forecast for Twin Falls is calling for a seven to eight-degree increase in temperatures from Wednesday into Thursday. Highs could reach the triple digits Thursday through Saturday. Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the week throughout the Magic Valley with temperatures climbing to near 102 degrees.
