Between 1970 and 1995 several films were made that have since achieved what many in the industry refer to as "cult classic" status. In 1990, a film was released that was about underground monster worms invading a small desert town that both Idaho and California have a long-lasting connection to.

When many movie fans think of cult classic films, A Clockwork Orange, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Back to the FuturePulp Fiction, Weird ScienceBlazing Saddles, Trainspotting, and several others may come to mind. Two of my personal favorite cult classic movies are Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Dazed and Confused. All of these films were released between 1971 and 1994.

How popular is the movie you might ask? A good indication can be found on a Reddit thread from 2021 titled, "I Love the Movie Tremors." More than 16,000 people responded to it, and the Idaho theme park was also mentioned in it.

In 1990, the movie Tremors came out, and it made fans all around the world. It starred up-and-coming actors Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward, and was about killer worm-like creatures that terrorized a small town. The movie was filmed largely in the California desert approximately 200 miles northeast of Los Angeles, in an area called Lone Pine.

People travel from all over the U.S. to visit the desert where it was filmed. Idaho also has an amusement park that opened in 1999 in Athol. The ride's design is said to have been inspired by the movie, of which the owner was a big fan. The roller coaster is named "Tremors," and is still a very popular attraction.
