Cringe-Worthy Habits To Avoid At Idaho Thanksgiving Dinner Table
Thanksgiving week is here, and many of us are being pulled in every direction while trying to balance work, kids, and preparations for the holiday feast. Company will arrive soon, and certain habits people have at the dinner table are much more than just your average peccadillo and should be avoided like the plague.
Once again, I'll be cooking for a small group this year. We have invited four additional people to sit down with us at the Thanksgiving table this year. That will make seven in all for Thursday's gathering.
It's better to just quietly serve yourself the foods you want, and if someone else comments that's on them.
By Monday, the turkey thawing process will begin for those of us cooking a larger bird; if we don't have leftover turkey for sandwiches for at least a week, then I haven't done my job.
I was thinking back recently on some of the people that I've shared the table with over the years and some frightening memories resurfaced. There's no real dress code in our family because comfort is encouraged, but I did have a boyfriend of my daughter's once wear sweats and a hoodie, which did come up in conversation later.
The Spectator released a pretty spot-on list of what NOT to do at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Discussing the diet you're on is a huge no-no as it makes everyone else feel like crap for eating. It's better to just quietly serve yourself the foods you want, and if someone else comments that's on them.
Controversial topics (politics, religion) also made the list (keep it light), as did letting kids make side dishes, and lastly inviting that one relative who causes a scene every year should probably be avoided, according to The Spectator.
Slurping, farting, belching, and picking your nose at the table will probably get you uninvited in 2025. Oh, and if you're bringing a dish of your own to the table, avoid cranberries (prepared anyway). Yahoo Life has this dish as America's least favorite side according to its 2024 survey.
