Despite digital streaming platforms like Plex and Roku that offer a countless number of movies to watch through subscriptions, most people I know still have a love affair with their DVD collections. If you've been stashing away the films you've amassed from the $5 Walmart movie bins or other retailers for decades, then you might be sitting on a small fortune if you're lucky enough to have snagged certain limited edition box sets.

I recently went through a move and found some old boxes of movies I'd forgotten about. If I had to guesstimate the total number of DVDs I own, I'd put that number somewhere around 200. While I don't think any of mine are unique enough to be heavily sought after by collectors, they still hold sentimental value to me.

I recently researched what collectors look for when it comes to DVDs. The age of the movie, the number of copies produced, and whether or not they were packaged in some sort of fancy case all factor into a movie's value. On the rare occasions when the flick was never unwrapped or opened, it makes the item even more valuable.

The entertainment website Express recently shared its "15 Old DVDs You May Own That Are Worth A Fortune" list, and I was bummed out to learn I don't own a single one, but perhaps you do.

A few notable DVDs that have fetched a pretty penny online include the Monty Python And The Holy Grail Castle Box Limited Edition Set, The Godfather: Coppola Restoration Limited Edition Blu-Ray Box Set, the Blade Runner Ultimate Collector's Edition ( Briefcase), and the Beatles Anthology Box Set. These limited releases are fetching hundreds of dollars each.
