Former Boise State QB Brilliant In NFL Preseason Game With Bears
For Boise State Broncos fans who may have tuned into last night's NFL pre-season game, you might have noticed a very familiar face shredding the Houston Texans secondary.
Professional football fans got a glimpse of the 2024-25 NFL season last night with the annual Hall of Fame Game on ESPN. The Chicago Bears and Houston Texans showcased second, third, and fourth-string players in a game that was called with a few minutes left in the third quarter due to lightning. The Bears won 21-17 and were led by sixth-year veteran and former BSU quarterback Brett Rypien.
Granted, it was pre-season, but still, he looked incredible as the Bears' signal caller.
I followed Rypien very closely during his Boise playing days because I was responsible for airing the games on Twin Falls' 98.3 FM "The Snake," and would sometimes have to sit up until almost midnight listening to the radio feed to make sure the post-game show ended without issues and regular programming transitioned smoothly. My only regret is that I never personally attended a home Broncos game.
Brett, the nephew of former NFL great and champion with the Washington Redskins Mark Rypien, tossed three touchdowns, didn't throw a single intersection, and passed for nearly 200 yards on Thursday night. Granted, it was pre-season, but still, he looked incredible as the Bears' signal caller.
Brett Rypien spent time in Denver before being picked up by Chicago and looks good enough already to back up the 2024 number-one draft pick Caleb Williams out of the University of Southern California. Rypien was all smiles during the post-game press conference.
The next opportunity for Boise State fans to catch Rypien in action will be August 10 when the Bears play the Buffalo Bills.
