An Idaho minor who was found guilty of murdering her parents more than a decade ago remains incarcerated serving a life sentence. The crime is eerily similar to a California double murder that occurred 14 years prior and has recently been made into two separate Netflix specials available for streaming now.

On September 2, 2003, a 16-year-old girl named Sarah Marie Johnson shot her mother and father to death in their home in Bellevue, Idaho, with a Winchester rifle, according to court reports.

By now, many of you have watched the Netflix releases Monsters and The Menendez Brothers. Both specials tell the story of the 1989 double murder of Kitty and Jose Menendez in Los Angeles. The wealthy couple were gunned down in their home by both sons, Erik and Lyle, over alleged abuse.

The Menendez murders took place just before the arrest of retired NFL player and actor O.J. Simpson. Simpson would ultimately be found not guilty of the gruesome killings of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, a waiter and aspiring actor himself.
