Montana authorities are asking the public for assistance in the case of a camper who was found slain in his tent recently near the Idaho border. The local sheriff's department is investigating the matter as a homicide after the autopsy revealed "vicious" and suspicious wounds.

If you were camping or traveling in the Big Sky area between October 9th and 12th and witnessed anything suspicious, you are being asked to contact Montana authorities in Bozeman.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office has made a public plea for information in the case of a lone Montana camper found with what appears to be axe-type, fatal wounds on his body, according to press conference details shared by KREM 2 News. The story broke from numerous sources including KETK approximately two weeks ago after the victim was discovered by a friend in the southwestern Montana woods.

The victim was discovered near the community of Big Sky, which has a population of roughly 2,900. Big Sky is close to both the Wyoming and Idaho borders. Investigators initially believed the death could have been caused by a wild animal such as a bear, but have re-focused their attention toward tracking down a potential suspect.

If you were camping or traveling in the Big Sky area between October 9th and 12th and witnessed anything suspicious, you are being asked to contact Montana authorities in Bozeman. Items may have been stolen from the victim including an orange cooler, axe, and pistol, according to KREM 2 News.
