Southern Idaho To Host Pro Hockey Preseason Game In September

The start of the National Hockey League's 2025-26 season is roughly three months away. It was recently announced that the league's newest expansion team will host a West Coast rival in southwestern Idaho later this year.

Utah was the latest state to get a professional hockey team when the 2024-25 season started in October of last year.

Salt Lake City's Utah Hockey Club became the second winningest expansion franchise in its inaugural season after totaling 38 wins last year. The Utah team also sold out every home game last season, according to Deseret News. The Las Vegas Golden Knights won 51 games in its inaugural season in 2017.

Utah Mammoth to Play Los Angeles Kings in Boise Preseason Game This September

The NHL's newest team also recently unveiled its new name earlier this year. When the puck drops on October 8 for the regular season, they will be forever be known as The Utah Mammoth. They share the Delta Center in Salt Lake City along with The Utah Jazz professional basketball team.

The Utah Mammoth will play the Los Angeles Kings in a preseason game on September 30, 2025, according to the NHL's official website. The two teams will play at the Idaho Central Arena. The minor league team the Idaho Steelheads currently play home games at the ICA.

Boise, Idaho, is 340 miles northwest of Salt Lake City, Utah. The NHL recently unveiled the upcoming preseason schedule for the 2025-26 season for all 32 teams. The regular season schedule will come out later in July.
