Ford has announced a major recall of older model cars and trucks over concerns about a potentially fatal flaw in its airbag system. Numerous model Ford vehicles have been flagged and the company is offering owners an opportunity to have repairs made nationwide.

As a Ford truck owner, I took notice of a nationwide recall on August 13, 2024. The announcement was made on the company's official website and involves nine different models of Ford vehicles. The issue has to do with a high probability of injury in airbag deployment that involves Takata non-desiccated airbag inflators, according to the company.

According to Ford, the company has made it possible for owners of these vehicles to contact local dealerships to schedule repairs at no cost. Both driver's side and passenger airbags with these inflators run the risk of injury or death until repaired.

  • 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln MKZ / Zephyr vehicles
  • 2007-2010 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX vehicles
  • 2007-2011 Ford Ranger trucks

According to Ford, the company has made it possible for owners of these vehicles to contact local dealerships to schedule repairs at no cost. Both driver's side and passenger airbags with these inflators run the risk of injury or death until repaired.

Takata airbags were installed in vehicles between 2002 and 2015, according to data shared by phillipslaw.com. More than 60 million of these airbags have been involved in recalls since 2005, according to phillipslaw.com.
