Idaho is a state of many remarkable lakes. There's an incredibly remote, practically untouched expanse of forest and lakes located in the northern region of the Gem State that is home to one body of water that might have an offensive name but sure does make up for it with its amazing 360-degree views.

Idaho is home to over 2,000 lakes, according to Idaho Department of Water Resources data. My exploration of the state is limited to the central and southern portions, so ninety-nine percent of these lakes I've never laid eyes on; I have yet to travel north of Redfish Lake.

There's a reality show called River of No Return that my wife and I watched a couple of years ago that opened our eyes up to the Frank Church Wilderness region of Idaho. Unfortunately, only one season was released before the show got canceled.

Located north of the Frank Church River of No Return region is the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, which extends over the border into Montana. It's within these mountains that you'll discover Bitch Lake, which is roughly 70 miles southwest of Missoula, Montana, near Nez Perce Reservation land.

There's a YouTube video from 2000 that features three brave hikers who spent a couple of days exploring the lake and surrounding forest. The lake is in a very isolated part of the state and close to 20 miles from the nearest town, according to information online. The description of the video states that the group hiked more than 40 miles in all during the trip.

The origin of the Idaho lake's name is unclear, but we do know the word is used to identify a female dog as well as a Rolling Stones song released in 1971. Just know that if you decide to attempt this hike to Bitch Lake you're in for quite an adventure.

Places To Get Really High Around Twin Falls

Since marijuana is still illegal in Idaho, you can’t legally walk down the street and get high, but there's another way to get high around Twin Falls that is much more socially acceptable.
