Seasoned Kayaker Dies in Dangerous Section of Idaho River
Rivers are nothing to mess around with. Over 4,000 people drown annually in the United States in accidents involving rivers, lakes, and the ocean, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
In 2022, renowned Idaho kayaker Jim Grossman died along what is considered to be one of--if not the--deadliest river sections in the state. Grossman died at 56 years old on Memorial Day while attempting to navigate the South Fork of the Salmon River, according to theinertia.com.

The region is nicknamed "The River of No Return" for good reason. The fatalities list for the area on the website American Whitewater seems to go on with no end when scrolling through it. The mountain bike trail that runs parallel with the south fork is known throughout the state as the most extreme and difficult to navigate.
