Jerome, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - Wednesday afternoon just before 2 p.m. , Jerome deputies were notified by a homeowner in the county that a person not known to him, was attempting to gain access to his house, through his back door.

The dog in the home alerted the resident. The homeowner said the man he described as Hispanic, claimed to be looking for someone. The man then quickly left the scene. The homeowner was able to give a good description of the person, the car he was driving, including a license plate number, to deputies.

Moments later, authorities spotted the vehicle within the city limits. When they attempted to stop the car, the driver ran, tossing a gun. That weapon was later recovered. Authorities say they believe the subject may be the same individual who has been a person of interest in past burglaries.

The search centered around East Avenue F Street and Cleveland. Because that is near the Heritage School on South Lincoln, the school administration decided to place the school into lockdown.

Just before 4pm authorities report they have taken the subject into custody. Because they are not sure of charges, the name of the individual has not been released.

After the suspect was taken into custody, the school was notified they could release the students.
