Monday was a Day of Remembrance for those interned and those Japanese-Americans who fought in WWII, even while some of their families were interned. Men, women, and children, mostly U.S. citizens not guilty of any crime, were held in internment camps for more than three years.

One of the camps, called the Minidoka Camp, was in Jerome County. It held close to 10,000 people. Gov. Butch Otter signed a proclamation Monday commemorating what is a Day of Remembrance for those imprisoned, with the hopes that nothing like that ever happens again. Monday's proclamation also honors Japanese-Americans who served in World War II, even after they were all classified as enemy aliens.
