The Minidoka County School District is reeling from state budget cuts in education and the “Students Come First” initiative.  At a school board meeting this week board members approved the layoffs of 11 teachers in the district.  The board was hoping that attrition and retirements would account for most of the reduction in teaching staff in the district but that didn’t happen.

A new budget for the 2012 fiscal year has been approved by the College of Southern Idaho Board of Trustees.  The budget is an increase over  2011 of $1.396 million dollars, or just under a four percent increase.

When the state announced recently that Idaho’s junior colleges would be getting some extra money it came as somewhat of a surprise to many of the school officials.

In an effort to make up severe a budget shortfall in the Jerome School District, Superintendent Dale Layne proposed adding extra transportation fees for middle and high school sports activities.
