BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Political newcomer Tommy Ahlquist says he'll cut $100 million from the state budget within his first 100 days in office if he wins the Idaho gubernatorial seat in 2018.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho House panel has advanced a $51 million tax cut proposal.

The Jerome School board made some tough decisions this week to finalize the 2011-2012 budget.  With cuts in state funding the school district faces a $1.3-million dollar cut in funding from last year for a total of $17-million dollars.

Many of the budget cuts passed this year in the legislature will go into effect in just a few days on July 1st.  One of the areas taking a big hit is Medicaid and preventative dental care.

More than 100 people gathered at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare to attend a hearing over whether they'll be able to appeal cuts to the state's cash assistance program for disabled adults.

The Idaho Senate has approved a higher education budget with a $7.6 million cut in state support. The Senate voted 28-7 along party lines to pass the budget for Idaho's public universities, which is up $19 million in total funding but with the cut in state general funds, will force the schools to rely more on dedicated funds that primarily consist of student tuition and fees...

A bill that cuts $35 million from state Medicaid funding is now cruising through the Senate.  Republicans on the Senate Health and Welfare Committee on Tuesday sent it to a full chamber vote.
