The local ranger district and state wildlife agency have proposed changes to existing seasonal road closures in the South Hills and have asked for the public to comment. The Minidoka Ranger District and Idaho Department of Fish and Game are looking to change specific motorized road closures during the month of October and replace them with other closures.
Visitors to a popular recreation and camping area in the Mini-Cassia area will have to continue to wait for snow to melt before being able to access campsites and a lake.
Some campgrounds are closed in the South Hills after a weekend snowstorm felled trees and filled the campgrounds with white stuff, according to forest officials.
Forest managers have planned a prescribed burn in the South Hills this week to protect aspen trees and promote their growth. The burn will be up Rock Creek Canyon in the upper Mountain View Creek area beginning October 4
UPDATE: Fire crews have been able to contain 80% of the fire as of Sunday morning. There are about 83 people working on the blaze that sparked ahead of the weekend. Officials say the fire grew little in the last several days. At this time it has burned roughly 300 acres.
