The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch in several areas of central Idaho, including the Sun Valley region, until 6 p.m. today, according to the Pocatello office.

A number of areas could be affected by scattered thunderstorms on Thursday, which, according to the National Weather Service, could cause lightning that in turn could start new fires.

Much of southern Idaho will see thunderstorm activity prompting weather officials to issue a Red Flag Warning this afternoon. Winds are expected to pick up with gust as high was 30 m.p.h.

A Red Flag Warning will go into effect this afternoon for southwest Idaho as thunderstorms may roll through.
