COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP/KTVB) - Northern Idaho officials say a report about the fatal shooting of a dog inside a van by a Coeur d'Alene police officer is nearly complete.
Interim Police Chief Ron Clark tells The Spokesman-Review in a story on Friday that the report is about 300 pages and will be reviewed by three internal police officials and an outside police official.
He says a final evaluation will be done by an independent use-of-force expert.
Police on July 9 put out a statement that an officer responding to a report of a suspicious van had shot and killed a "vicious pit bull" that lunged for an officer's face.
The dog turned out to be a 2-year-old black Labrador mix named Arfee.
Authorities say the unnamed officer didn't turn on his body camera.
