BSU Graduate Injured in Afghanistan

BOISE – An Idaho soldier has lost both legs in a bomb blast in Afghanistan earlier this month. Family members tell KTVB News that on June 1, 2013, 1st Lt. Micah Jay Andersen was severely injured by an improvised explosive device while leading his platoon on a mission near Kandahar, Afghanistan.

One soldier was killed and six others injured in the attack. Andersen lost both legs above the knees. Andersen was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 36th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division that is stationed at Ft. Bliss Texas.

Andersen is from Los Alamos, New Mexico, and attended college at Boise State University. He received his commission as U.S. Army officer, Armor Branch. Prior to attending BSU, he served in the Army for three years. Andersen is the father of a young son, Jay, who was born at the end of April 2013. His wife, Linzi, and son live in Boise. Andersen is currently in San Antonio, Texas.
