Buhl Dad Who Faked Cancer Fundraiser Takes Deal

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A dad from the southern Idaho town of Buhl is set to be sentenced in September for his role in a fraudulent fundraiser for his daughter's phony cancer diagnosis.

The Times-News reports 54-year-old Michael Wayne Holley pleaded guilty late last week to one count of aiding and abetting in grand theft by deception. In exchange, prosecutors agreed to drop another charge and recommend that he be accepted into a mental health court program. Prosecutors said Holley and his wife, Lisa Holley, held a car wash and accepted donations for their daughter, who they said had cancer.

The girl wasn't sick. Officials are still determining if Lisa Holley is fit for trial. She faces an additional charge because prosecutors say she faked being pregnant with triplets to get money donations.
