Fast Spreading Wildfire Burns 2 Structures East of Boise

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Fire crews are fighting a fast-spreading wildfire in southwest Idaho that destroyed two outbuildings as it quickly grew to more than 5 square miles in size Tuesday.

Officials had closed State Highway 21 in both directions but reopened Tuesday night, with pilot cars leading traffic through the area. Officials were also calling in more firefighters to battle the blaze about 15 miles east of Boise that's burning through grass and brush.

Bureau of Land Management officials say 10 other structures are threatened. Officials also say the fire was human-caused. Idaho Power officials tweeted Tuesday night that the fire had damaged a power line, causing an outage for more than 2,500 customers in Idaho City.

In central Idaho, a wildfire burning in brush and timber has consumed about 240 acres eight miles north of Idaho City. Campers in the area have been evacuated. About 200 firefighters are at the scene and more are being called in. Officials say the cause of the blaze is unknown. Officials say a structure from a mining operation is threatened but there are no homes near the fire.
