Forget Wind and Solar and Promote Hydropower

Here’s a message for liberals:  Leave my electricity alone!  A few days ago I saw a story (which I’ll call wishful thinking) where the writer suggested the days of natural gas were nearing an end.  A good idea, he explained, as there is methane released into the atmosphere and it will only serve to cook the planet.

He’s the latest writer to claim wind and solar will soon be so cheap we’ll not have any need for “fossil fuels”.  Although, he grants there are still storage issues.You also have members of the tree-hugging, hemp clothing wearing, granola gobbling left who want dams torn asunder.

There are also the dead birds and bats no longer eating disease spreading mosquitoes.  They’ve been killed by wind turbines.  Spent solar panels have disposal issues.  It may not be as bad as spent nuclear fuel rods but there remains an environmental hazard.

You also have members of the tree-hugging, hemp clothing wearing, granola gobbling left who want dams torn asunder.  Again, we’ll replace it with giant wheels and generate power by running like mice.  On cold days they expect we’ll slap ourselves and generate heat.

Hydropower exists because there’s a demand.  It also helps keep people alive.  The blackouts in California have caused some deaths of people who relied on steady electricity for life saving machinery.

Click here to read a great essay on how hydropower may have saved much of the Northwest from widespread brownouts and blackouts.  There was a lengthy period at the beginning of this month where there was very little wind spinning turbines.  The network of dams across the river system kept us out of the dark.

If Lefty wants to slap himself silly in hopes of staying warm, then by all means, beat your chest.  The rest of us will use more sane alternatives.
