Former ‘LOST‘ showrunner Carlton Cuse has certainly found his next success in A&E’s ‘Psycho’ prequel drama ‘Bates Motel,’ but will Damon Lindelof share the same success with his upcoming HBO pilot ‘The Leftovers‘? With the pilot soon to go before cameras, ‘Friday Night Lights‘ helmer Peter Berg has signed on to direct and produce the rapturous new series, but will ‘The Leftovers’ prove to be a satisfying course?

We’re keeping a close eye on ‘The Leftovers,’ currently ordered to pilot for HBO. Adapted from Tom Perotta’s 2011 novel of the same name and set after the biblical Rapture, ‘The Leftovers’ follows the tale of those left behind on Earth, not chosen to be taken up to Heaven. The people of the small town must begin to rebuild their lives after the sudden and mysterious disappearance of over 100 people.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that ‘Friday Night Lights‘ and ‘Battleship‘ director Peter Berg has offiiclally signed on to direct the pilot, taking a producer role on the series as well. HBO acquired rights to ‘The Leftovers’ for series development with Perrotta attached as writer/executive producer and Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger as executive producers in August of 2011, shortly before the book even came out. If picked up to series, Lindelof would serve as the showrunner.

What say you? Do you think Damon Lindelof will enrapture audiences with new HBO series ‘The Leftovers’? Have you read the book?
