Idaho Governor Creates Task Force to Handle Hackers

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho Gov. Butch Otter has established a Cybersecurity Cabinet Task Force to help protect state data from hackers. The Idaho Statesman reports that Lt. Gov. Brad Little will chair the group, which is scheduled to have its first meeting Sept. 16. The new group also includes representatives of the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security, Idaho Transportation Department, Department of Health and Welfare, Idaho State Police, Tax Commission and state universities.

The task force comes after the state Supreme Court's website was defaced in November. Later, on July 1, Idaho Department of Administration Office of Chief the Chief Information Officer spokesman Bill Farnsworth says unauthorized access was detected to the server of another agency's website. Farnsworth says the underlying database of state information was not affected in either event.
