As a parent, teaching a child to use the toilet is one of the hardest (and messiest) things you'll ever do. But potty training just got even more difficult for a Piedmont, Oklahoma, mom who was fined $2,500 for letting her toddler pee in the front yard.

According to the boy's mother, Ashley Warden, 3-year-old Dillan, who's being potty trained, was outside when he heard nature's call. Since a toilet was nowhere near, the boy decided to go on his own front lawn rather than make a mess in his pull-up diaper. Unfortunately, a police officer witnessed the incident and issued a citation.

"Dillan pulled down his pants to pee outside ... the cop pulled up and asked for my license and told me he was going to give me a ticket for public urination," said Warden in disbelief.

The family said they tried to reason with the officer, but he wouldn't budge. "I said really, he is 3 years old, and he said it doesn't matter," said the boy's grandmother. "[He said] It is public urination. I said we are on our property and he said it's in public view."

So, the family decided to take matters up with the police department, but Piedmont cops rejected their complaint. And now, they have a court appearance set for next month. Still, the Wardens haven't given up the battle, and they plan to contest the ticket in court.

What do you think? Was the cop right in issuing the ticket?
