TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – If you fly a drone, you need to obey the rules.

That’s the message out of Blackfoot, which has been menaced by the remote-controlled aircraft. Drones apparently have been causing problems for the local pilots.

"People need to be aware of the rules,” Randy Wareing, manager of the Blackfoot Municipal Airport, told the Morning News. “They can't fly within five miles of the airport and they have to call to get permission.”

Wareing said the rules were not made by the airport or state, but by the Federal Aviation Administration.

According to the FAA, you are not to fly drones near manned aircraft and, among other things, you are supposed to register it if it meets the weight classification.

Bill Carberry, manager of Magic Valley Regional Airport, said besides one incident last year there have not been any problems with people flying drones near the local airport.
