PETA Wants Memorial for Turkeys Involved in Wreck
HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — Animal rights activists are seeking to put a roadside memorial sign along a highway northeast of Provo where hundreds of turkeys died a truck crash.
The group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has submitted a design to the Utah Department of Transportation’s Memorial Safety Sign Program.
The program allows grieving families to memorialize loved ones who died in crashes on highways and reminds drivers to be safe.
The Salt Lake Tribune (http://bit.ly/1mjgtxk) reports PETA’s design urges people to “try vegan.”
UDOT spokesman Adan Carrillo says the department will review the proposal.
The crash last week in Provo Canyon on U.S. Route 189 sent the semitrailer’s driver to the hospital and littered Deer Creek Reservoir with turkeys.
