Two Killed in West Idaho Crash
NEW PLYMOUTH, Idaho (KTVB) -- Two people died and two others were injured in a crash south of New Plymouth Sunday morning.
The collision happened shortly after 7:00 a.m. at the junction of US30 and State Highway 72. According to Idaho State Police, 81-year-old Phillip L. Vanderpool, of Wilder, was driving north on US30 in a GMC Suburban when he ran a stop sign and crashed into a Ford pickup, driven by 31-year-old Fernando Monjares, Jr., of Morse, Texas. Vanderpool and his passenger, 76-year-old Velma R. Vanderpool, died at the scene of the crash.
Monjares and a passenger in his pickup were taken by ground ambulance to a Fruitland hospital. Investigators say neither of the Vanderpools were wearing seatbelts. The road was blocked for about five hours. Idaho State Police continue to investigate the crash.
