NEW YORK (AP) — Your furry best pal probably has roots in Europe. Scientists may have been barking up the wrong tree by first suggesting that dogs originated in Asia or the Middle East. Now, a large DNA study indicates the pooch first evolved from wolves in Europe about 30,000 years ago. The study is published in the journal Science. Researchers say they compared fossil DNA to modern day wolves and dog breeds, including the cocker spaniel and golden retriever.
