Wings Charter School In Twin Falls Is Closing
Twin Falls, Idaho ( KMVT-TV / KSVT-TV ) - The end is near for the Wings Charter School in Twin Falls. In a word, it has to do with money.
School Administrator Kristy Oberg said the board of trustees voted on Thursday April 10 to complete the current school year but close the school at the completion on May 22.
Oberg cites the high cost of facilities lease, reduction in student enrollment and state budget cuts over the past several years as the reasons for the closure. She said it all eroded the financial stability of the school. The news release went on to say that Even though a new lease was being negotiated at a more reasonable rate, and the state funding for the next school year shows a slight increase, the projected budget was too tight to allow for adequate staffing which meets federal requirements, facilities, and technology. Instruction for students will continue through the end of the school year, slated to end on May 22.
A transition plan for students will be established, including transfer of student records. A stakeholder meeting was held on Wednesday, April 23rd at 7pm. The school also issued a “FAQ” for parents:
