Tony Romo passed for 307 yards and three touchdowns as the Dallas Cowboys beat the New York Giants, 24-17, in the opening game of the 2012 NFL season Wednesday night at East Rutherford, NJ.

Dallas (1-0) had a 17-10 lead heading into the fourth quarter after Romo threw two touchdown passes to Kevin Ogletree, including a 40-yarder on the Cowboys’ first possession of the second half. Romo later hooked up with Miles Austin on a 34-yard scoring strike in the final quarter to extend the Dallas advantage to 24-10 with just under six minutes to play.

Eli Manning rallied New York (0-1) within seven points with 2:36 to play by throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass to Martellus Bennett. The defending Super Bowl champs couldn’t complete the rally, as Dallas converted a first down and then ran out the clock to seal the victory.

Ogletree led the Cowboys with eight receptions for 114 yards and two scores, while Dallas running back DeMarco Murray rushed 20 times for 131 yards. Manning completed 21 of 32 passes for 213 yards and the late touchdown. Giants’ receiver Victor Cruz caught six passes for 58 yards, while teammate Ahmad Bradshaw rushed 17 times for 78 yards and a score.
