The Leading Causes Of Death In Idaho

Many things in Idaho can put our lives at risk, and one might think something in the great outdoors would be among the leading causes of death - you know, something like an interaction with a bear... or a mountain lion.

On the other hand, some might think that the leading cause of death could be related to the Idaho elements, like winter weather or even the rivers and bodies of water in Idaho.

Surprisingly (at least to us), the leading causes of death don't include any of those things. As a matter of fact, three of the leading causes of death made up 45% of the 7,791 deaths in 2022, according to data from USA Facts and the CDC.

The third leading cause of death in Idaho is accidents, which shouldn't be much of a surprise. Accidents made up 7% of the deaths in 2022. Unfortunately, we've seen an increase in accidents in recent weeks and will likely continue to as summer continues.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in Idaho, with 18% of deaths caused by the illness.

The leading cause of death in the Gem State is none other than heart disease, which makes up 20% of the deaths in Idaho, according to USA Facts.

Don't Worry! There's Good News!

At least there's something you can do to prevent getting heart disease. Experts often recommend getting regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, and, of course, avoiding all forms of tobacco, including vaping.

Be safe and take care of yourself! You don't want to become another statistic, do you?
