Cattle Released Onto Idaho Highway Following Trailer Fire
A trailer fire in southeast Idaho on a heavily used highway caused a headache over the weekend as traffic was blocked for around 4 hours.
Part of the reason for the traffic delay was due to the contents of the trailer.
Trailer Full of Cattle Catches Fire on Idaho Highway
Idaho State Police are investigating the trailer fire on Interstate 15 (I-15) west of Shelley at milepost 108. The accident happened on December 29th at 1:39 PM. The report from the ISP states:
A 40-year-old male of Saint Anthony, Idaho was driving southbound in a 2005 Kenworth pulling a 2008 Wilson Trailer. The Wilson Trailer’s back tires began to catch fire before fully engulfing the trailer. Cattle were released from the trailer onto the interstate due to the fire.
The incident blocked both the northbound and southbound lanes of I-15 for approximately 4 hours.
Shelley, ID is in Bingham County between Idaho Falls and Blackfoot in the southeast portion of the state. The city is east of I-15 and Highway 91 runs through the town.

During the cleanup, Idaho State Police were assisted by the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Shelley Fire, Shelley Ambulance, the Idaho Transportation Department, and the River Bend Riders.
