Idaho highways are dangerous places. We are constantly reporting on fatal and injury vehicular accidents on I15, I84, US93, and other roads across the state. Most accidents involve either a single vehicle or a vehicle hitting another vehicle.

The latest report from the Idaho State Police was arguably even more scary. As it involved a trooper outside his vehicle, clearing debris from the highway when an inattentive driver nearly hit him.

ISP Trooper Nearly Hit on Southern Idaho Highway By Driver

The near hit was caught on camera by the Idaho State Police Trooper, Trooper Daniel, as he was clearing hazardous metal debris on Interstate 84 in Nampa. The video shows the careless driver on the median shoulder next to the cement barrier, not even in a travel lane of the highway, headed straight toward the officer.

Luckily, Daniel saw the approaching vehicle and was able to jump over the barrier in time. The driver of the vehicle, a black Nissan 350Z, stops after realizing what had happened.

It sounds like the driver is a male who asks if the trooper is OK. Daniel is heard telling him, ‘That’s why you have to slow down and move over.’

The video doesn’t tell us whether the driver was cited or reprimanded in any way, other than the chastisement from Trooper Daniel. Comments on the social media post are clear in their opinion that ISP should not be lenient with the driver.

The post shared on Facebook, and the video itself, are an important reminder to ‘protect those protecting you’ and to ‘move over’ for stopped emergency vehicles.
