New ‘Steve Jobs’ Trailer: Is Michael Fassbender an Oscar Frontrunner?
We weren’t sure what to think about Aaron Sorkin’s Steve Jobs biopic after the first trailer. Yes, it seemed dramatic and fascinating, but also highlighted a performance by Michael Fassbender as the former Apple CEO that didn’t really look or sound at all like Steve Jobs. Could the film overcome that hurdle? After the film premiered at the Telluride Film Festival earlier this month to rave reviews — specifically calling out Fassbender’s “enthralling” and “stunning” — it may be time to fully buy in to this project. If you’re left doubting, a brand new trailer has arrived to help convince you.
Universal Pictures has had a record-breaking year at the box-office ($2.2 billion and counting), and it would be nothing short of remarkable if they were able to add Oscar success to that, but that may be in the film’s future. There are still a lot of movies between now and the end of December, so it may be early to rush to any judgment, but Steve Jobs at the very least looks like a contender.
Selected as the Centerpiece feature of the 53rd annual New York Film Festival, Steve Jobs will screen on Saturday, October 3 before opening wide the next week.
Set backstage in the minutes before three iconic product launches spanning Jobs’ career—beginning with the Macintosh in 1984, and ending with the unveiling of the iMac in 1998—Steve Jobs takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter.
In addition to Fassbender, the Danny Boyle-directed film stars Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Michael Stuhlbarg and Katherine Waterston.
Steve Jobs opens in theaters on October 9.
