Fire Watch
(KLIX)- An estimated 30,642 acres of land has been burned in the South Hills. According to fire officials crews have made progress battling the Cave Canyon Fire. The flames could be seen from Twin Falls at night as the fire made its way westward. On Wednesday afternoon a large DC-10 helped crews by dropping retardant to slow the fire down. It can carry up to 11,000 gallons of retardant. Crews are trying to keep the fire from crossing the forest road that leads to Oakley. So far the Cave Canyon fire is about 10 percent contained. The fire is set in the Dry Creek and Big Cottonwood drainages. Fire officials are also working on a 1500 acre blaze near Kelsaw Canyon near the Rice Creek Drainage. Crews are trying to keep this fire from growing into private land. Fire fighters are also working on the Hot Well fire east of Albion. And according to the website inciweb.org the Flat Top 2 fire burning north of Kimama and South of Carey has burned roughly 135,000 acres of desert grass and brush. Air drops continue on the blaze and wind is making it difficult to combat.
